Interventions at Kingsley Academy

Kingsley Academy has a robust system of interventions in place in all year groups to ensure students are successful in their education.

Kingsley Academy is part of the PiXL (Partners in Excellence) organisation. PiXL is the largest partnership network of schools in England and Wales comprising over 1500 schools, all working together to achieve the highest outcomes for students and to improve their life chances. .

PIXL partnership enables access to the following which students will become familiar with, including: -

  • Huddle  - access to many valuable resources for teachers to use with Years 10 to 13

  • PPE -  Pre Public Examination papers for a range of subjects, which at Kingsley we set ‘blind’ so as to replicate as closely as possible the real exams

  • PLCs – Personal Learning Checklists which let students and teachers see how they performing in key topics and what they need to do to improve

  • Smith Proforma – a personalised document provided by teachers to students with specific actions to ensure key topics are understood

  • WTMs – Walking Talking Mocks, a way that teachers ‘talk’ through an examination paper with students to develop exam skills and techniques

Other interventions will include mentoring, booster sessions, assemblies, external providers.

The waves of intervention model describes how different levels of intervention can be understood and systematically implemented.

Wave 1 describes quality inclusive teaching which takes into account the learning needs of all the children in the classroom. This includes providing differentiated work and creating an inclusive learning environment.

Wave 2 describes specific, additional and time-limited interventions provided for some students who need help to accelerate their progress. Wave 2 interventions are often targeted at a group of students with similar needs. Programmes such as revision sessions, after school classes and small group sessions would be regarded as Wave 2 interventions.

Wave 3 describes targeted provision for students where it is necessary to provide highly tailored intervention to accelerate progress or enable children to achieve their potential. This may include one to one or specialist interventions such as mentoring, personalised exam scripts, Smith proformas for all subject areas and classes
