KA welcomed lots of visitors on Monday 20 November: 2 Japanese visiting professors and a Department for Education (DfE) representative from the Academies Regional Division Group. Kaori Kikuchi, Assistant Professor
from the University of Tsukuba in Japan, and her colleague  Dr Seiko Oyama, Associate Professor from Tokai University, visited us to look at English as an Additional Language provision in our school. The number of speakers of Japanese as an additional language has been growing over the past few years, with large numbers arriving from other Asian countries and Brazil. Seiko and  Kaori, who has visited us twice before, have been leading research looking for the development and implementation of provision for students of Japanese as an additional language in mainstream education and have chosen Kingsley Academy because of our expertise and national standing in this area.

Our DfE visitor came as part of an immersion programme, developed to allow DfE staff to understand better the workings of academies. He will spend three days working with senior staff and visiting classrooms. After day 1, he reported that he had enjoyed himself very much and learnt a great deal.
