Newsletter Summer 2015

From the Principal's Desk
It has been a spectacular ending to a super busy school year. Alongside our focus and core purpose of raising achievement we organised a plethora of extended curriculum activities: Olympics Day was a huge success with the whole school coming together as one family and covering a whole range of activities from the traditional relays to creating Olympic villages, chess competitions and ‘welly’ throwing.

Our Curriculum Enrichment Days provide students with different ways of learning as well as developing skills such as working in different groups, decision-making, planning projects, problem solving, presenting ideas and giving feedback, thinking creatively, meeting deadlines etc. For example, Year 7 spent a day investigating different careers in Science and spent a day at Windsor, Year 8 – STEM based activities and a day based on ‘Water Aid’, Year 9 were working with The Orange Tree Theatre Company on ‘Macbeth’ for a day and a day of learning about Finances, ‘Keep the Cash’ and Year 10 spent 2 days on their options ensuring they are in a strong position to enter Year 11. They also had an individual ‘mock’ interview with feedback which was extremely positive.

The 6th form have been involved in various visits including universities, the Old Bailey and team
building activities.

As well as these events, we have also had a huge number of students completing residential field trips and Duke of Edinburgh expeditions.

I know that you, like me,  will be appreciative of all the wonderful extended curriculum opportunities
available at Kingsley Academy due to the commitment and passion my staff have for ensuring our students have a well-rounded education and learning experience.
