Project 1: Sixth Form Chess Challenge (overseen by Monika Hosker)

Focus group:
High ability Sixth Form students
Impact:
Recruitment and retention of More Able into our 6th form. 
Increased progression to Russell group Universities.

Chess Workshop (Year 12)
Build problem-solving abilities.
Improve students’ cognition and mathematical skills.Improve strategic planning, pattern recognition, abstract reasoning and creativity.

Chess Challenge (Year 12)
Test critical thinking skills via completion ‘that fosters interest, promotes mental alertness, challenges students and elicits high levels of achievement’. (Stephan, 1988)

Chess Challenge Sixth Form Rewards Assembly
Continue raising profile and celebrating mental abilities such as analysis, synthesis and evaluation.

Project 2: Multiple Intelligence (overseen by Monika Hosker)

Focus group:
High ability Year 9 and Year 10 students
Impact:
Raise attainment of More Able students in KS4. Equip learners with choices and options through recognising the brain’s natural potential for learning by fostering multiple intelligences.

1. 29th June 2016
Multiple Intelligence: My Amazing Intelligence Workshop (Year 9 and Year 10)
Students will have explored the concept of intelligence, specifically Howard’s Garner’s theory of multiple intelligence.
They will have a better understanding of their own intelligence strengths and how they can use this effectively in revision.
2. 7th July 2016
Mindmapping Workshop
Students will have understood the process of mindmapping.They will have been able to apply it to their own revision.
3. Week starting on 11th July 2016  ‘Fountain of Knowledge Assembly’. MA students share their acquired skills with the rest of the year groups.Raise achievement of More Able students and accelerate their learning. Raise awareness of Multiple Intelligence .

Focus group:
High ability Year 7 and Year 8 students
Impact:
Develop creative writing and literacy skills. Raise student achievement in English.
